![]() The talent gives you the change of reducing the Reload cost in Stunt dice. I decided to give it a chance and see how it works but when I was reading the talent Pistoleer I trigger a chain-reaction of frustration. Having three Motivations and three Methods, I felt the combat was a game of chance and the only attribute valid was Speed beside some talents. I liked the ideas of the combat when I read the jumpstart but I was expecting some tweaks in the corebook. I received the book and when I was ready to test the game with friends a week ago I started to read the rules with more detail. I was excited with the setting and given the experience of Rose Bailey I was confident to get a good swashbuckler game in Mars. But it does mean that 11 pages of the book are wasted on incomprehensible garble. So the shiny hardcover I got, though marred, isn't mortally flawed by the stochastic index, and I won't be seeking a refund. Even if properly indented, good luck remembering that association when looking up"caravans." I can't entirely brush off the possibility that the index is deliberately sabotaged by this aggressive subjectivity as some sort of post-modern gesture against min-max culture.įortunately, the nature of the game doesn't require close detail tracking, and the table of contents is much better organized, serving well as the primary text reference. One would assume that "Caravans" is a big enough subject to warrant it's own entry in the "C" section, but here it's referring specifically to Zaius caravans, and there is no general entry for caravans on Mars. The seeming randomness is partly because of this failure to indent, but also because of the narrow conceptual hierarchy applied. As said, it looks like the main problem is a failure to indent in the above example, every word from"Assasins" through "Merchant Quarter" is probably supposed to be a subsection of "Zigger," indented like "Assassins", "Atmospheric Processor" and "Entertainer" are. Out of all the 35 first-tier entries in the "Z" section, only 7 actually begin with the letter Z. To illustrate, the first part of the "Z" section is reproduced as follows (skipping the page numbers): The worst problem is that at least half the subjects are scattered seemingly randomly in no accordance with alphabetical or conceptual sense. The least of the problem are entries that were supposed to be sub-entries but almost never indented properly. It's so jumbled I at first thought it was a printing error, but it's the same in the PDF, so the cause must be the primary formatting of the text. ![]() The second problem is a more critical issue: the index is a gory disaster. Cinematic unisystem compiled pdf pdf#Fortunately having the PDF mitigates this. The first is minor: putting the two page world map near the center of the book, where the binding's bulk eats up about a half-inch column of the map's middle graphic, was a clumsy layout choice. I very much like this game, and am glad to have gotten it in hardcover, but that pleasure is a bit greyed because of two issues with the text. Cinematic unisystem compiled pdf plus#The usual black & white edition, plus a version using the Standard Color Heavyweight process to offer a book on a heavier paper stock for more vibrant printing. Note that while Cavaliers of Mars is a black & white book, we are two Hardcover versions.
